Mystery writer Bethany Lange wasn't prepared for the twisting emotions that left her breathless the moment she laid eyes on folk singer sensation Ali Hart. Of course she was flat on her back and looking up and backward at the gorgeous singer, but that didn't stop her body and heart from bursting into a kaleidoscope of want, need, and lust. Scared at the intensity of her feelings, Bethany does everything she can to avoid Ali at Camp Jacomo, the camp designed specifically for children of lesbian and gay families where Bethany volunteers every summer. The camp director convinces the hottest singer at the moment, Ali Hart, to spend a week teaching the children music - to everybody's delight except Bethany's. On her last day at camp, Ali approaches Bethany with an offer of friendship, but they both know it's the prelude to something bolder. Should Bethany take the risk? Does she really believe she can balance her quiet, private life with Ali's outspoken one?

I am so sad that I am finished reading Jolt. It captivated me from the beginning. I read certain parts over and over just to experience their story again. I loved the emotion that Ms Bryant showed in Beth and Ali through their dialogue and Beth's private thoughts. The angst was palpable and I was enjoying every minute. Their chemistry was off the charts and we were rewarded with sizzling love scenes. I am beginning to think that Ms. Bryant is my favorite love scene writer... Whew!!*MILD SPOILER*- The scene where the "misunderstanding" takes place is so raw and well written it took my breath away. I love how Ms Bryant describes how Beth is feeling and how she is responding to Ali's attempts to speak to her. I especially love the visual of Ali sliding down the wall with her face in her hands. It truly captures the desperation that AlI is feeling.
I just love Beth and Ali's romance...True Love!! This is my kind of book and Ms Bryant is an amazing storyteller. Thank you for a wonderful reading experience!! I will be reading this book again and again! Go KC Royals.

Jolt (Audible Audio Edition) Kris Bryant Emily C Michaels Audible Studios Books Reviews
Jolt is an adorable and sultry love story between a quirky writer and a sexy star. The rollercoaster of relationship struggles and emotions are easy to relate to. I caught myself rooting for the unlikely pair to confess their love for one another by the end. Ms Bryant also does an amazing job of capturing the best part of a new relationship... the intense passionate sex, of course!! )
Kris Bryant is an excellent author and this book, Jolt, is amazing! The characters were so real I feel that I know them and they live in my life. The story was truthful; what happens when you get hurt and are hesitant to begin again. Awesome read and I look forward to many more books ... I hpe we get a second glance into the lives of these two women.
An okay, quick read.
I found the not too original conflict of reading-too-much-into-a-kiss-with-another-woman a bit forced, especially considering how patient and understanding Ali's character was with Bethany, but whatever!
What I love most about reading romance books are the feelings that they can evoke inside of me. Sometimes when I read a story I find myself getting bored and knowing where the character is going to go before I actually read what happens. I feel a bit cheated when I don’t become lost in the story and I continue to long for that vicarious rush. Well let me tell you, none of that negative stuff happened when I read Kris Bryant’s Jolt. Her book sucked me in and wouldn’t let go. I morned the loss when I had to set it aside to do the mundane things in life such as going to work and eating a meal. Doing dishes, be damned, I had a book to read.
Jolt was almost everything you could ever want in a romance, the rush of attraction, the burden of past baggage, the angst and….well anyway you get the picture. My only wish, and I hope Kris will fulfill my wish, is that since it was written beautifully in first person…well…couldyouwriteanotherbookandshowtheothercharacter’spointofview? phew. If you write it I will buy it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Every time I picked it up with the intent to read just one chapter but then couldn't put it down. Ended up reading the entire book over a couple of days. Well written story. The relationship of the main characters, Ali and Beth, was developed nicely. I actually cared about what happened to them. The supporting characters, mainly the other adults at the camp and Ali's family, made for an eclectic and fun group. Sex was exciting (something to look forward to!) while fitting into the story well.
Hope this author continues to write. Would love more about Ali and Beth or something completely new.
After looking for something new to read I came across Jolt and as I began to read I was engrossed completely with the story line. What I thought would be the same old formula with different characters thrown, in the mix turned out to be a lot deeper than expected. The lives of Bethany (a writer) and Ali (a folk singer) intertwined and what followed was a look into the history and the past experiences which defined both women and determined their decisions and actions throughout the book. Name it, you found it in this book, the conflict, the drama, the uncertainty, humour and the build up and eventual sex was incredible! Imagine my shock when I found out this was a debut novel. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised. I can't wait for more from this author!!
There are some vague spoilers for this story contained in this review.
I liked this story, it's a sweet romance. The leads spend a lot of time together, even though they're in a long distance relationship, and get to know each other in a slow, even old-fashioned way, which made for a nice change of pace. As it's told in first person (and in present tense which isn't a favourite of mine) from Beth's POV, it's harder to get a grasp on Ali, and Beth's introspection does get a bit repetitious after awhile. The Beth talking to famous authors in her head thing also got old pretty fast.
There is a bit of semi contrived drama but it's sorted fairly quickly and not just glossed over. The only downside to the story was that given all the time spent on the build up to and then settling into a relationship, I did find the ending very rushed, but enough of the loose ends had been hinted at prior to it, that you could at least see where it would have gone. Even with that though, I enjoyed the story and recommend it.
I hate that 's rating system doesn't allow for half stars. I'd have given this four stars if not for the first person/present tense narrative, and the rushed ending. I look forward to reading more from this author.
